The name Sapphire originates from the Greek word »Sapheiros« and from the Latin word »Saphirus«, meaning blue. Sapphire occurs in all the colors of the rainbow, but the Blue Sapphire is the rarest and most wanted of them all. The same as Ruby, it comes from the family of Corundum. It is one of the hardest stones in the world and reaches 9 on the Mohs scale. It is written in the Hebrew Scriptures that King Solomon and Abraham wore Sapphire talismans and that Moses's Ten Commandments were carved in the Sapphire plates. The Greeks wore it in the oracles, the Persians believed that the whole Earth was made out of Sapphire and the ancient Teutons believed that it brings victory to those who cleanse themselves of all negative thoughts.
Sapphire is the stone of WISDOM - it strengthens memory, lifts inspiration, and stimulates the desire for knowledge. When worn in the HEART area it serves as strong protection against envy, gossip, and betrayal. When given away, sold, or lost, it still gives Energy to its previous owner. With Sapphire, we become more Spiritual thru Wisdom of Love. It helps us cleanse ourselves of all unnecessary material that the body demands. We gain courage, determination, and self-discipline in the most difficult moments. Sapphire attracts friends and repels enemies, strengthens loyalty, and brings a higher form of love into a relationship.
Blue Sapphire has been used as an eye healer for centuries. The Stone has strong effects on the 5th and 6th Energy Center of Consciousness (throat chakra, third eye chakra) and was used for easing headaches, fever, nose bleeds, hearing problems, ear infections, and vertigo. In old scriptures, it is written that Sapphires were very useful for healing thyroid, swollen glands, and problems with speech dysfunctions, also for healing the nerve system, blood diseases, dementia, and degenerative diseases. It is written that Sapphire eases problems with Heart, asthma, insomnia, and neuralgia. It was also used in neurological and skin diseases, and stimulation of hypophysis. It was also used as an effective tool for curing chronic diseases such as osteochondrosis, spondylosis, paralysis, and paresis after a stroke. Today it is mostly used for Spiritual growth.
